Tile is only as good as what is underneath it. We check the subfloor, waterproofing, and layout before setting the first tile, because those hidden layers decide whether a floor or shower holds up.

Tile in Florida usually fails for a few reasons: a subfloor that flexes, missing waterproofing, or a wet area that was never built to stay dry. A bathroom floor in a settling 1950s ranch may need the subfloor reinforced before tile goes down. A shower needs a waterproof membrane behind the wall board, because grout alone will not keep water out of the wall.

Layout comes next. We dry-lay the field, plan cuts so thin slivers end up out of sight, and keep grout lines consistent across walls that are rarely straight. That applies to a ceramic backsplash, a porcelain plank floor, or a detailed mosaic. We mark, balance, and adjust the layout before mixing thinset.

We set ceramic, porcelain, and natural stone, and we choose the mortar, trowel, and setting method for each material, since large-format tile and natural stone need different handling. Edges get proper profiles, penetrations around fixtures get sealed, and transitions between rooms sit flush.

In older homes

Older homes bring out-of-level floors, leaning walls, and original substrates never meant for modern tile. We level and reinforce where needed so a new floor lies flat. In bathrooms where the original tile is worth keeping, we can often patch and match it instead of gutting the room.
