Paint That Holds Up to Florida

Paint lasts only as long as the surface under it. We scrape, sand, repair, and prime before the finish coat, then cut clean lines at trim and ceilings.

Florida weather is hard on paint. Humidity feeds mildew, salt air near the coast lifts coatings off trim, and sun fades south-facing walls quickly. A better can of paint does not fix that by itself. We address moisture sources, treat mildew, scrape failing layers, repair the wood, and prime so the finish bonds to a sound surface. Skipped prep is a common reason exterior paint peels within a couple of seasons.

On older homes, exterior prep is also when rot gets found. As we scrape, we repair rot, splits, and failed caulk joints that let water in, often while the damage is still small. We caulk the joints that should be sealed and leave open the ones that need to drain, so water is not trapped inside the wall.

Inside, we protect floors and furniture, patch and skim walls so they look flat in raking light, and cut crisp edges at trim and ceilings. Old plaster does not always bond well with modern coatings, so plaster walls in historic homes get prep and primer chosen for plaster.
